Baltimore Reaches $150K Settlement Over Police Brutality Complaint

BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ) -- Baltimore City officials are expected to sign off Wednesday on a $150,000 settlement to resolve a lawsuit fueled by allegations of police brutality, our media partner The Baltimore Sun reports.

The newspaper reports the Board of Estimates is set to make the payment to Tiyon Williams. Online court records show an attorney for Williams filed the complaint in December of 2014 against Lieutenant Joel Fried and Detectives Maurice Ward and Robert Mitchell, accusing them of battery and false arrest.

According to The Sun's report, the complaint is related to an incident in which the officers allegedly roughed him up -- specifically dragging, punching and stomping him -- and handcuffed him when he ran following a friend's arrest in the 900 block of North Mount Street on May 19, 2012.

Williams was taken to the hospital after investigators concluded he had not committed a crime.

Court records show a settlement was reached April 13.
