Baltimore Postal Worker Charged With Stealing More Than 20,000 Pieces Of Mail

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--Federal authorities are investigating a Baltimore postal worker who is charged with stealing more than 20,000 pieces of mail.

Jeffrey Shipley was a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier from August 1993 to March 2014. But according to charging documents, Shipley failed to deliver, embezzled and stole more than 20,000 items.

He's accused of stealing checks, money orders, prescription medication, passports and DVDs. Charging documents say he even stole furniture that belonged to the postal service.

Authorities say he primarily stole from the Parkville Branch and Catonsville Carrier Annex--two locations that were not on his assigned route.

When Shipley was arrested on March 10, officers recovered 55 gift cards and 15 credit cards that he removed from mail packages and envelopes. A number of stolen items were in his wallet.

Shipley was charged last week with theft of mail and destruction of mail.
