Armed Suspect Arrested After Nearly 9-Hour Standoff With Police

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- An armed suspect has been taken into custody after a nearly 9-hour standoff with police in Northwest Baltimore.

At about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, police say Baltimore City sheriff's deputies were attempting to serve a warrant at a home in the 6900 block of Reisterstown Road. The man inside refused to come out, implying he had a gun.

Negotiators continued to speak with the suspect throughout the day.

The suspect finally came out around 5:15 p.m., firing shots at officers outside the home. No one was injured.

"We confirm that he did in fact come out of the house and he is in custody. So he is in custody. Our primary goal through this entire day was to end the situation peacefully. We were able to do so," said T.J. Smith, Baltimore City Police Department.

Reisterstown Road was closed for several hours between Seven Mile Lane and Labyrinth Road, as police continued to investigate. It has since been reopened.

The name of the suspect has not been released. Charges are still pending.
