Baltimore Police Officer Charged With Assault After Allegedly Spitting On Suspect

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A Baltimore police officer is charged after video surfaces of him appearing to spit on a suspect.

Sgt. Robert Messner is charged with second-degree assault and misconduct in office.

"Today Officer Robert D. Messner was charged with second degree assault and misconduct in office for allegedly spitting on Mr. Alfred Evans while he was in police custody on October 12, 2015," said Rochelle Ritchie a spokeswoman with the City State's Attorney's office.

This cell phone video was posted on social media earlier this month, showing the sergeant spitting on a man handcuffed on the ground.

Messner was suspended with pay after the incident.
