Baltimore Police Lower May Homicide Count To 42
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore police have lowered the city's homicide count for the month of May to 42.
The department announced Thursday that after a review of a fatal shooting on May 7, detectives found it to be justified. Police say this lowers the homicide count for the month from 43.
The change makes May the city's deadliest month since August 1990, when there were also 42 homicides, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Police say there have been 121 homicides so far this year. That's 35 more than the 85 homicides at the same point last year.
There were 221 shootings in the city this year, including 103 shootings in May alone. That's 97 more shootings the 124 at the same point last year.
