3 Arrested Following Officer-Involved Shooting In NW Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ)— Three men are now custody in connection to a police-involved shooting on Wednesday afternoon.

Amy Yensi has the details.

Around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, ceasefire officers were patrolling in an unmarked car in NW Baltimore when encountered a suspicious SUV in the 3400 block of Piedmont Ave.

As officers approached the vehicle, police say the suspect's vehicle, with three people inside, went into reverse tearing off the door of the police vehicle.

Two Baltimore officers--who were in plain clothes, but wearing bullet proof vests at the time--then opened fire on the suspects, striking the driver in the neck, said Baltimore Police spokesperson, T.J. Smith.

The driver was transported to the hospital and is expected to be released shortly.

A witness tells WJZ everything happened pretty quickly as he heard four gunshots and a loud sound.

Police say two additional suspects have also been taken into custody. All charges are still pending at this time.

During the investigation, detectives say they found inside the suspect Chevy Equinox.

"They found a handgun and they found drugs inside of the vehicle," Smith said.

One officer was injured in the incident when police say he was struck in the leg by suspect's vehicle. He is expected to survive.

The investigating is ongoing at this time.
