Baltimore Native Is Navy's New Top Enlisted Sailor

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Navy says a Baltimore native will become its most senior enlisted member.

Chief of Naval Operations John Richardson said in a statement Monday that Fleet Master Chief Steven Giordano will become the 14th master chief petty officer of the Navy during a change-of-command ceremony at the Washington Navy Yard on Sept. 2.

Giordano will succeed Michael Stevens. Stevens announced in March he will retire after four years in the position.

The master chief petty officer advises the chief of naval operations and the chief of naval personnel in matters regarding enlisted members and their families.

Giordano is currently the senior enlisted leader for U.S. naval forces in Europe and Africa, based in in Naples, Italy.
