Attorney General identifies man killed, officers involved in Anne Arundel Co. crash

BALTIMORE -- A 22-year-old man died in a crash on December 7 in Anne Arundel County while being followed by two patrol cars.

The Attorney General's Office said a car was speeding in the early morning on the Stoney Creek drawbridge in Pasadena with the headlights turned off. Officers said two patrol cars followed behind without their emergency lights on.

The car then crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of Fort Smallwood and Bar Harbor Roads. The passenger, identified as Damione Gardner, died at the scene. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The involved Anne Arundel County Police officers have been identified as Officer K. Schnell, a four-year veteran; and Officer E. Vasquez, a three-year veteran.
