Baltimore FBI Searching For 'The Mod Squad' Bank Robbers

BALTIMORE (WJZ) --  The FBI Baltimore Violent Crimes Task Force is searching for four bank robbers who they have named "The Mod Squad."

Investigators believe the group is responsible for two bank robberies on Saturday and a total of 13 since March.

The Task Force named the group "The Mod Squad" because they appear younger than the usual bank robbery crews. They say the group uses a variety of clothing styles and sunglasses.

"We're calling them 'The Mod Squad' because they're younger than what we typically see for bank robbers, particularly a robbery crew," an FBI spokesperson said.

During the robberies, some of the suspects entered the bank branches while another would be a lookout positioned in the vestibule or lobby. The suspects would then approach the teller and present a demand note to bank employees.

Once the robbers received the money from the tellers, the suspects would flee in a variety of vehicle types. To date, there have not been any injuries as a result of any of the robberies.

"Typically they'll have a lookout that stays in the lobby or vestibule of the bank and one of the members of the crew will approach the teller and display a note," an FBI spokesperson said. "The note will threaten violence and harm against the employees and the customers in the bank and the tellers will respond by handing over the currency that the robbers demand."

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the suspects in the robberies.

"Robbery crews aren't uncommon, but to get up into the number they are now, with the robberies today, they're up to 13 bank robberies," an FBI spokesperson said. "Just for a frame of reference, there are some FBI divisions that haven't even seen 13 bank robberies in the division, and here we have a crew that's committed 13 themselves."
