Baltimore County Studying Body Cameras For Police

TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- Officials in Baltimore County will study having police wear body cameras.

Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz says the cameras can help both the police and the public. He's asking Police Chief Jim Johnson to study the issue with input from the Fraternal Order of Police, the State's Attorney's Office and community groups.

Kamenetz says the study would take 90 days. If the county council approves the use of body cameras, money to purchase them would be included in the budget for the next fiscal year, which takes effect July 1.

The county is also going to spend just over $100,000 to add cameras to the Tasers used by police. The cameras will start rolling when the Taser is turned on.
