Baltimore County Restaurant Week Comes With Extra Helping Of Days

TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) -- When the dog days of summer arrive, it's time to chow down. Baltimore City's annual Restaurant Week is into its final days.

Alex DeMetrick reports now Baltimore County is kicking off its week of bargain diving.

It was standing room only at the Oyster Bay Grille in Towson, but it's tough to complain when you're eating samples of some of the best restaurants in Baltimore County.

"It's a different spin on salmon. I've never done it sweet like this. Very good with the mix of the potatoes," said Courtney Bush.

"Give the patrons the benefit of having a little less expensive meal, being able to go out and try some restaurants maybe they wouldn't necessarily be able to try on a regular basis," said Brian Boston, Milton Inn.

Restaurant Week is sponsored by Baltimore County's tourism bureau, and 64 are offering fixed menus with prices as low as $10 to no more than $30. In what is normally a slow time for restaurants, those prices fill tables.

"Oh, absolutely. Restaurant Week always increases our sales, customers who have never tried the restaurant before. So I think it's good for everybody," said David Thomas, Herb and Soul.

Restaurants may be a treat for most of us, but it's also a $1 billion a year business in Baltimore County.

"It's also a huge employment base. We have over 1,500 restaurants. They employ a lot of people. It's good for the economy, good for the palate," said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz.

In Baltimore County, Restaurant Week comes with an extra helping of days. Instead of seven, it runs 17 days.
