BALTIMORE -- Baltimore County is betting big on the redevelopment of Security Square Mall.

Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski announced the County's acquisition of a parcel at the Security Square Mall site. 

The county is providing $30 million toward the redevelopment of the mostly empty mall.

It has already acquired the vacant Sears building and 12 acres nearby.

County leaders say the possibilities are endless, including new residences attached to shops, outdoor eateries and more.

The mall opened in 1972 and the only major anchor store that remains is Macy's.
