Baltimore Co. School Counselor Takes State Title

TOWSON, Md. (WJZ)— A long time Baltimore County school official has been recognized as one of the best high school counselors in the state of Maryland.

Donna Murphy, the Counseling Chair at Eastern Technical High School has been named the 2015 Maryland's High School Counselor of the Year.

"I am honored by this recognition," said Murphy on her latest accomplishment. "I am thrilled to work with two great counselors in my department and with my fantastic secretary and records secretary. I have an incredibly supportive administration, and the students at Eastern Tech are amazing."

Murphy is in her 17th year with the school district and has introduced a number of new initiatives, including the "Mr. Mojo" anti-bullying program and the school's college boot camp.

In honor of her achievement, Murphy will attend the Maryland School Counselor Association gala in February.

Murphy was previously named the Baltimore County Public Schools Counselor of the Year.

The Maryland School Counselor Association (MSCA) recognizes one counselor at the elementary, middle, and high school levels for effectively meeting students' academic, career, emotional, and social needs through data-driven and innovative programs. Winners at the state level are eligible to compete at the national level.
