Baltimore Police Officer Dies Weeks After Crash Involving Scooter

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A Baltimore City police officer dies weeks after a serious crash involving a scooter.

The Baltimore City FOP confirms Officer Craig Chandler succumbed to his injuries on Friday, Jan 9.

Chandler and two other officers gave chase to a pair riding a scooter on Nov. 23 in Northwest Baltimore.

Police say an officer noticed a group of people in an alley standing near dirt bikes. The group quickly took off. One man running on foot hopped on the back of the scooter.

Authorities say a sergeant told the officers to stop chasing, but instead they continued their pursuit.

Seconds later, their patrol car crashed into a telephone pole in the 2200-block of Kirk Avenue.
