Workers Putting Final Touches On Horseshoe Casino Facility

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore City is ten days away from its official entry into the world of gaming.

Pat Warren has an early look inside the Horseshoe Baltimore Casino.

The closer they get, the harder and faster they're working to meet that deadline. Horseshoe Baltimore's general manager tells WJZ they have every intention of meeting it.

Construction workers put the final touches on the $442 million Horseshoe Casino facility, while gaming experts set more than 100 gaming tables and hundreds of friendly faces stand ready to greet and meet customers for a signature Horseshoe experience.

"Very similar to other Horseshoes in terms of fit and finish and the level in which we complete that," said Chad Barnhill, Horseshoe Casino.

For those who prefer a sure thing, there's the food, with local favorites lined up with top chefs.

"It's our first attempt to go out and get Baltimore-based restaurants in this scenario," said Barnhill.

It's all designed to put players and observers in a good mood, even if they lose.

The state collects 20 percent on table games, 61 percent of the casino's earnings on slots and the city of Baltimore gets three percent of the revenues for leasing city-owned land.

The Caesar's Horseshoe Casino's additional economic impact is on the number of jobs the casino is providing. Nearly half of the 1,700 permanent jobs go to Baltimore City residents.

"And I think from what you can see here it's something everybody's going to be very proud of," Barnhill said.

They've been working towards this since 2012.

On Monday, they'll do a test run, leaving time to fix any unforeseen glitches.

The casino grand opening is August 26.
