Baltimore Breweries Provide Some 'Ryelief' For Ellicott City

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- There's some relief on tap for Ellicott City at some bars and restaurants around Baltimore, thanks to an effort by local brewing communities.

On Monday, a section of Main Street between Court avenue and Forrest street will re-open, but there is still a lot of work to be done.

"BGE is still repairing and putting in new gas lines all the way down Main Street" says Howard County Executive, Allan Kittleman, "They're working on water lines."

Just six weeks ago, an overwhelming ripped through the town, killing two people and destroying dozens of cars and buildings.

What followed was an outpouring of support from four Baltimore-area breweries.

"I think  it's important that we give back the best way can." says Kennith Prayy of Monument City Brewing, "an that's through beer."

Key, White Marsh, Brewer's Art and Monument City have joined forces to create a new brew called "Ryelief".

100 percent of the proceeds will go towards the recovery effort in Ellicott City as well as a flood damaged home brew store.

"It's got a pale malt and rye melt in there, fresh ginger root" says Mike McDonald of Key Brewing "and it's fermented with Belgian West mal yeast, that gives it a spicy characteristic."

About 65 kegs will be distributed to Baltimore bars and restaurants. The proceeds from that initial order alone will bring in almost $6000.

The brewers say that more Baltimore-area restaurants are more than willing to support Ellicott City by putting this beer on tap.

If you want to give it a try, you can visit Red Brick Station in White Marsh, Metropolitan in Federal Hill, Max's Tap House in Fell's Point or Bar Flies in Federal Hill.
