The adult female bird was found on the ground, fighting with another eagle at the King George County landfill on June 15.

The bird was treated for lead exposure and mild trauma from its fight with the other eagle. The bird has spent the past few weeks in the center's outdoor pens, building up strength and stamina.

The state park where the eagle will be released is the summer home for one of the largest concentrations of bald eagles on the East Coast.
