Baby Loggerhead Turtle Named Sheldon

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The baby loggerhead turtle at The National Aquarium has a name -- it's Sheldon!

After weeks of nominations, the aquarium selected five names: Boh, Kai, Sheldon, Ziggy and Snape -- that were put up for public vote.

Ziggy was the runner up.

"We're so happy Sheldon has found a home at that Aquarium and very pleased that the public was so involved in naming our loggerhead," said Elizabeth Claus, senior aquarist at the National Aquarium. "We are appreciative of the all the support we received from our community, from suggesting names to voting on their favorite. The entire naming process has been incredible for both the community and National Aquarium staff."

Three names submitted were in memory of loved ones recently lost by area families. The aquarium has decided to celebrate their memories by naming three rescue turtles after those people -- Ed, Franklin and Henry.

Sheldon is residing in the Coastal Beach exhibit.
