Baby Boy Born Along Maryland Highway

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Most people on Interstate 270 in the morning are in a hurry. But one baby was so ready to greet the world, he didn't bother waiting for his mother to reach a hospital.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Pete Piringer says the baby boy was born early Thursday along I-270 near Shady Grove Road in the Rockville area.

Piringer says paramedics took the newborn and his mother to an area hospital, where both are doing well.

Piringer later tweeted:

"Congrats....Baby Jacob was born on I270 this morn, Amanda & Jon Nelson & baby are all doing well - at local hospital."
