Authorities Charge Man in Assault of Woman on Metro Train

WASHINGTON (WJZ/AP) — Authorities say they've filed charges against a man accused of assaulting and trying to rape a woman last month on a Metro train in Montgomery County.

Thirty-nine-year-old John Prentice Hicks of Washington, D.C., has been charged with attempted first-degree rape, first-degree sexual offense and second-degree assault in connection with the April 12 incident.

He was extradited last week and ordered held without bond Monday.

Metro Transit Police say the woman was attacked by the knife-wielding suspect around 10 a.m. on the Red Line.

She says she saw the suspect in the car with her, in the middle section of the train, where he approached her and asked if she had a boyfriend and which stop she was headed to.

As the train arrived at the Forest Glen station in Montgomery County, he took out a knife and forcefully guided her another portion of the train and forced her to perform oral sex on him, according to the police report.

Police say Hicks was arrested hours after the attack.

Montgomery County State's Attorney's spokesman Ramon Korionoff says surveillance footage at a Metro station helped identify Hicks as the suspect.
