Audit: $704K In Unclaimed Slots Winnings Mishandled

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- An audit has found that the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency did not correctly handle unclaimed vouchers worth $704,000 in slot-machine winnings in 2013 at Maryland casinos.

WJZ media partner The Baltimore Sun reports that the Department of Legislative Services audit made available Monday says all unclaimed winnings should have gone go the state. The audit says since they were handled as gambling proceeds that are divided between casinos and the state, $347,000 did not go to the state.

In its response, the agency says it is seeking to change the regulation to reflect its practice and a proposed revision was published in the Maryland Register.
