Amtrak Service Affected, Train Comes Into Contact With Vehicle
BALTIMORE (WJZ/AP) -- Amtrak says train service was impacted through the Northeast Corridor after an Amtrak train came into contact with a vehicle Sunday afternoon.
Amtrak says the incident happened at 3:19 p.m. in Essex, and involved a Northeast Regional train with 330 passengers on board.
The Baltimore County Police Department confirms it happened when a teen riding an ATV or motorcycle was injured on or near the tracks.
The teen was reportedly flown from the Middle River area to a hospital Sunday with injuries that aren't considered life-threatening.
Police say there was some sort of accident involving five teens. Four were reportedly on ATVs, while the fifth was on a motorcycle.
Amtrak says there have been no reported injuries to passengers or crew members.
Amtrak tells WJZ the train came into contact with the vehicle, but then resumed service to Lynchburg, Va.
It is unclear if the train was involved in the accident, or if it came into contact with the vehicle after it crashed.
The train resumed service about an hour and half after the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
