Assateague State Park Welcomes Back Campers Following Storm

BERLIN, Md. (AP) -- Assateague State Park has welcomed its campers back following last week's storm.

WBOC-TV reports park officials reopened the campground gates at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The park sustained damage to dunes and dune crossovers as a result of the storm.

Officials say there was also some flooding in areas of the campground. The temporary closing of the park caused some campers to have to stay in local motels.

Clean-up efforts on the beach are ongoing. However, park officials say most of the campgrounds are accessible to campers.
