Arrest Warrant Obtained For Man Shot By Deputy

WALDORF, Md. (AP) -- The Charles County Sheriff's Office says an arrest warrant has been obtained for a man who was shot after allegedly walking toward a deputy while holding a knife.

The warrant charges 49-year-old Lavon DeWayne Chisley with first-degree assault, carrying a deadly weapon with intent to injure and other offenses.

Deputies went to a Waldorf home Wednesday night after a resident called 911 three times to report a fight. Authorities say two deputies arrived at the home and saw Chisley, who was holding a knife and appeared to be agitated, in the front yard.

Officials say Chisley refused commands to drop the weapon and approached one deputy, who fired and struck him in the abdomen.

Chisley remains hospitalized. Authorities say the deputy who shot him, Jose Marti, is on administrative leave.
