Man Turns Himself In To Police In Connection With 15-Year-Old's Fatal Shooting In Edgewood

EDGEWOOD Md. (WJZ) -- Police have arrested and charged an 18-year-old with first-degree murder in the July 4 shooting of an Edgewood teen.

Though they have yet to find a motive but said Rhazir Martin Meyers turned himself in to police three days after the shooting.

He's now facing several charges including first and second-degree murder.

At a press conference Monday, police said both Meyers and the victim-- 15-year-old Khalil Johnson-- were members of opposing gangs.

"Both Mr. Meyers and Johnson are known to our deputies and are known associated members of street gangs we have here in Harford County," said Sheriff Jeffrey R Gahler with Harford County Police.

Police said Johnson was shot near the intersection of Eloise and Brookside Drive in the upper body. He was taken to Shock Trauma where he later died.

Investigators said they received several tips from witnesses, pinning Meyers as the trigger puller.

Meyers has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and other charges.

Charging documents said Meyers was shot in the leg and that police obtained video surveillance showing several suspects on Brookside Drive and one person firing a handgun toward Johnson.

Documents also said Johnson was seen running from the scene near the 1900 block of Eloise Lane where he later collapsed and was brought inside a residence.

Meyers was arrested July 5 on drug charges but released two days later on bail before turning himself in.

"I'm very appreciative of the support of our community in the form of members coming forward to share information that assisted investigators, in this case, resulting in the arrest of Mr. Meyers," Sheriff Gahler said.

Police said they are still looking for potential suspects who may have been involved either before or after the shooting. They are asking anyone with information to come forward.
