Around The NFL With Phil Simms

Phil Simms, former New York Giants quarterback and color commentator for CBS Sports, joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn and Jason La Canfora to recap Week 9 in the NFL and preview Week 10.  Phil along with his partner Jim Nantz were on the call for Sunday's game between the Patriots and Broncos. Scott asked Simms what he took away from the big game in Foxborough.  "If they do meet, they want to meet at their field thats for sure. And I think New England, the one thing that doesnt surprise me is they can play the angry card as good as anyone in football. I'm sure last years championship game, a lot of other things, playing at home, was built up and we saw it in that game. And its interesting that Peyton threw for over 400 yards, a lot of guys caught passes  but I just thought New England was more physical. And I could see it with my eyes that was the difference in the game. "

Phil and Jim will also be on the call this Thursday night from Cincinnati where the Bengals host the Browns on Thursday Night Football. Jeremy asked Simms about how he sees the AFC North shaping up for the remainder of the season. "I think it is 4 solid teams and I'm interested to see how it goes. Cleveland lost their center and I do think that's a big deal. It's really hurt their run game and their pass protection... Cincinnati beat up, you have to worry about them too. A lot of defensive players are out, they're not dominating. And Pittsburgh, I was surprised watching that game Sunday night... The receiving core has changed and they're throwing it down the field and it makes them more dangerous."

Scott asked Phil about the current rules that give the offense an advantage and Phil doesn't think anything will change. "There's no chance. They're not going to help the defense out, they'll keep these rules for a couple of years and then change them again to help the offense some more."
