Anne Arundel Hears Cost Of Changing School Times

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A task force is outlining how much it would cost Anne Arundel County schools to create later school start times.

The Capital reports the first option presented Wednesday would have high schools start at 8:30 a.m., middle schools at 9:30 a.m. and elementary schools between 7:50 and 9:15 a.m.

Additional bus routes would cost $8.9 million.

The second option would push high schools to 9:15 a.m., middle schools between 8:20 and 8:30 a.m. and elementary schools between 7:40 and 9:15 a.m. It would cost $9.4 million.

A third option would push all schools 30 minutes later than their current times. It would cost $600,000.

The final option would shift all schools back 30 minutes and create a late-start hybrid option for high school students. It would cost $9.6 million.
