Annapolis Woman Arrested For Repeated Graffiti of 'Black Lives Matter' Sign

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- Graffiti spray painted over a "Black Lives Matter" sign posted outside an Annapolis church down the street from her home led to the arrest of an Anne Arundel County woman Thursday, according to police.

Police were called to St. Philip's Episcopal Church, located in the 700 block of Bestgate Road, before 7 a.m. where they discovered someone had defaced the sign so it read "Lives Matter" instead.

Later, officers went by the home of a woman suspected of vandalizing the same sign last winter. She allegedly admitted to the graffiti, which happened just a quarter mile away from her residence, and also acknowledged vandalizing the sign twice previously in March and December.

Chari Raye McLean, 56, was arrested by Anne Arundel County Police and charged with two misdemeanor counts of destruction of property. She is set to go to trial on Tuesday for a charge related to her previous arrest Dec. 21 for the vandalism of the same sign, according to online court records.
