Annapolis Man Drowns While Swimming at Western Maryland Park

OAKLAND, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say an Annapolis man drowned while swimming at a western Maryland state park.

Maryland Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candy Thomson says 28-year-old William Regan went to Swallow Falls State Park with his mother on Wednesday afternoon. They went down to the Youghiogheny (yahk-ih-GAY'-nee) River and he went swimming.

Regan swam and talked to people, but Thomson says when his mother realized she hadn't seen her son for a while, she called authorities.

Thomson says rangers and first responders searched for about two hours before Regan's body was found. His body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.
