Animal Cruelty Trial Resumes For Western Maryland Farmer
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A western Maryland farmer charged with 24 counts of animal cruelty is in court in Frederick.
Sixty-one-year-old Daniel Rohrer Jr. of Boonsboro is testifying in his own defense Wednesday. He's accused of neglecting and starving his cows, goats and sheep. He denies mistreating his animals.
The district court bench trial started in May in Hagerstown but was suspended due to judicial time constraints. The state rested in May after producing evidence that the animals were underweight, neglected and living in a barn with sheep carcasses.
Rohrer is also fighting a charge that he intimidated a witness by following an investigator with the Humane Society of Washington County after she testified against him in the case.(Copyright 2015 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
