Amtrak Upgrading Tracks Between Baltimore, Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON (WJZ) -- Amtrak is upgrading 31 miles of track between Baltimore and Washington, D.C. in an effort to allow trains to operate at higher speeds.

The upgrades, which will be on tracks between Washington Union to Baltimore Penn stations, include realigning track and curves and installing new rails.

The work is underway ahead of a planned 2021 debut of the new, next-generation Acela Express fleet.

Amtrak said the upgrades will also improve ride quality.
