America's Game Comes To Baltimore On Saturday

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- America's game comes to Baltimore! The Army/Navy football game is a more than century-old tradition that will play out this Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium.

Marcus Washington has the preps and excitement leading up to the square off.

They train to defend our country on land and sea but in five days, players for both the Army and Navy football teams will fight to defend their name on the field of M&T Bank Stadium.

It's one of the oldest football rivalries around and when the Army and Navy go head to head, fans get excited.

"It's the best game, I think, in the college schedule because it represents what's great about college football: kids getting out there and getting after it," said Ed Durkin.

For many of the fans, seeing these two teams battle is a tradition they won't miss...whether they are at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday or watching live on WJZ.

"I hope Navy wins. Sorry, Dad," said Tira Kimbo, whose father was in the Army.

In celebration of the big game, Midshipmen supporters gathered at a bonfire and pep rally on Sunday in Annapolis.

"I can't wait for Navy to kick the Army's you-know-what," said Mike Kirkpatrick.

For the past 12 games between the Army and Navy, the Naval Academy has taken the victory. Many fans say not to get too cocky but they think they are going to add another win to the list.

"There's no lack of intensity in the game but the Navy fortunately has had the best of the talent in the last decade or so," Durkin said.

For the more than 100 years, this game between the Army and Navy has been more than just a game: it's about pride, honor and respect.

"I'm hoping for a win for the Navy, of course. That's what it's all about: come on with the W and keep on with the tradition," said Thomas Wesley.

Our special pre-game coverage will start at noon, followed by the game. You can watch it all only on WJZ.
