Alcohol May Be A Factor In Single Car Crash That Injured 6 Teens

EDGEWATER, Md. (WJZ)—Six teens were injured in an overturned, single-car crash in Edgewater. Police believe the driver and five passengers may have been drinking prior to the collision.

The accident happened just after 12:35 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Central Avenue near Loch Haven Road.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a Toyota Camry driven by 18-year-old Sienna Lee Brandhorst was traveling eastbound on Central Avenue near Loch Haven Road when she lost control of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to skid, rotate 180 degrees into a ditch and overturn onto its roof.

Brandhorst, of Edgewater, was transported to Shock Trauma for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

All five passengers also suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The right front passenger in the vehicle, a 14-year-old male from Edgewater, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the fire department. He was transported by ambulance to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

Eighteen-year-old Jacob Lewis Brookman, of Edgewater, was in the rear seat of the vehicle. He sustained a head injury and was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center by ambulance.

The three remaining rear seat passengers included a 17-year-old male from Shadyside, a 17-year-old male from Glen Burnie and a 16-year-old male from Deale. Two of these passengers were transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center and one went to Shock Trauma.

Charges against Brandhorst are pending. The investigation is ongoing.
