Agency Reports No Serious Injuries In Juvenile Center Melee
SABILLASVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services says no one was seriously hurt in a disturbance at a Frederick County detention center late last week.
Agency spokeswoman Audra Harrison said in a statement Monday that a staff member who was taken to a hospital Friday returned to the Victor Cullen Center later that day.
Maryland State Police say 16 to 18 boys were involved in a fight. Police say several staff members were hurt.
Harrison says five youths also sustained minor cuts and scratches. She says several youths have been relocated.
Harrison says the department is investigating the incident and reviewing the center's operations.
The 48-bed facility in Sabillasville houses juveniles in state custody who have been ordered by the courts to receive treatment in a secure environment.
