Advocate For Women, Children To Speak At Morgan Commencement

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A woman who has worked worldwide to advocate the rights of women and children and who is the widow of Nelson Mandela will be the commencement speaker at Morgan State University.

Graca Machel will also be awarded an honorary doctorate at the ceremony on May 16.

Machel helped establish, Girls Not Brides: The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage, and is chairwoman of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health.

Machel married Mandela, the anti-apartheid activist who became the first black president of South Africa, in 1998. Mandela died in 2013.
