Winter Storm Warning Issued For Most Of Md., Snow Is Here

BALTIMORE (WJZ) – The widespread cold continues and snow is expected to fall throughout the night.

Meteorologist Chelsea Ingram reports a winter storm warning and winter storm watch are in effect

Snow is expected through the night and into Tuesday.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the entire region through Tuesday morning for the possibility of 3 to 6 inches or more snowfall.

A winter storm warning is also in effect for Baltimore, Howard, Prince George's, Anne Arundel, Charles and St. Mary's counties until 12 p.m. Tuesday.

Monday evening's rush hour wasn't affected, but Tuesday morning's rush hour may be a different story. Motorists are advised to leave extra time for traveling.

It looks like BWI could pick up 3 inches of snow easily, with 8 to 9 inches not out of the question on the upper-end.

With forecasts calling for four to eight inches of snow from Monday evening to midday Tuesday, and temperatures and wind chills predicted to be below zero during the rest of the week, Baltimore City Health Commissioner Leana Wen, M.D. has ordered the Code Blue extended through Friday, February 20. An extended Code Blue advisory had previously been in place from February 12 – 16. This is the seventh Code Blue alert for Baltimore this winter, and the city has experienced six cold weather related deaths.

"This week we will experience some of the coldest weather Baltimore has had in recent years," Dr. Wen said. "We all have to take this very seriously."
