Aberdeen Police Officer Struck By Vehicle

Aberdeen, Md. (WJZ) - An Aberdeen Police officer was injured after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday night, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.

Police said the officer was investigating an accident in the 700 block of W. Bel Air Avenue around 10:45pm and had blocked off the eastbound lane with his vehicle.  The officer was on foot wearing a reflective safety vest.

Authorities said a vehicle traveling on Beards Hill Road turned left on W. Bel Air Avenue and hit the officer.  The driver stayed at the scene.

The male officer was medevaced to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with head and lower body injuries.  He was treated and released.

Charges are pending following an investigation.
