Family: 94-Year-Old Laurel Woman Dies From West Nile Virus

LAUREL, Md. (WJZ) — A 94-year-old woman from Laurel, Maryland has died from the West Nile Virus, according to the victim's family.

The family says their mother, 94-year-old Dorothy Mount, died from the West Nile Virus after they received a call from a representative from the Baltimore VA Medical Center.

However, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said they he could not confirm whether or not the victim died from the West Nile Virus.

Officials say the woman's neighborhood, located in the 100 block of 8th Street, was sprayed for mosquitoes on August 9th and August 30th.

The  Maryland Department of Agriculture will be testing mosquitoes and conducting samples near the victim's home.

According to the victim's family, the 94-year-old woman was also in Elkridge, Maryland where she encountered mosquitoes there as well.

Officials say at this time it's unclear where the victim became infected.
