64 Percent Of Marylanders Are REAL ID Compliant Ahead Of October Deadline
GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WJZ) — With less than seven months until the federal deadline, more than 64 percent of Marylanders are now REAL ID compliant.
Wednesday morning, the Motor Vehicle Administration celebrated its three millionth REAL ID customer at its Baltimore City branch on Reisterstown Road.

The unsuspecting customer, William Oliver, was surprised with balloons and cupcakes.
"Totally surprised. It's cool though, it's cool," Oliver said.
Maryland is ahead of the game when it comes to REAL ID compliance; its 64 percent compliance rate is nearly double the national average.
Come October, Americans will need a REAL ID to board commercial flights or enter federal buildings.
"It's quite an accomplishment," said MDOT MVA Administrator Chrissy Nizer. "A little less than a year ago, we were at 1.4 million. We've more than doubled that."
Congress passed legislation requiring REAL IDs in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in an effort to set security standards for drivers licenses.
States across the country have been increasing hours and appointments to try to make it easier for residents to get their new IDs before the deadline.
If this still isn't you, the deadline is October 1 to become compliant. Planning ahead is key, Oliver said.
"Make sure you have the appointment," he said. "It will be real(ly) smooth and you won't be here all day.
