18 People Hurt In 6 Car Collision On I-95 Northbound

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Maryland State Police say 2 people were taken to shock trauma with injuries, and another 16 went to area hospitals with minor injuries after a six-car-collision on northbound I-95 Sunday afternoon.

Police say it happened just before 2 p.m. Sunday at I-95 northbound, just south of Route 43 in Baltimore County.

Police say traffic was moving slowly on I-95 when three cars driving at a slow-pace, following the speed of traffic in the first lane, when a fourth car struck the last of the first three, which caused a chain-reaction of the three cars to collide into each other from behind.

The last of those three cars then went into the next lane over and struck the side of a fifth car, which caused that vehicle to hit the sixth car.

Both lanes were blocked with the four of the cars, while the last two cars came to rest on the shoulder.

Police say EMS crews responded and transported 18 passengers, all with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators say the roadway was closed for about 20 minutes while the Fire Department removed all passengers from the vehicles and placed them in the ambulances.
