40-Year-Old Grandfather Gets Tryout With Baltimore Orioles

BALTIMORE (WNEW) — A grandfather is looking to make it back to the big leagues.

Forty-year-old Mark Hendrickson – who last pitched in 2011 for the Baltimore Orioles – went to the team's minicamp for a tryout Monday at the Ed Smith Stadium complex in Sarasota, Fla., WJZ media partner The Baltimore Sun reports.

"This is me taking my career by the horns, so to speak, and doing what I need to do," Hendrickson, who became a grandfather three months ago, told The Sun. "Because, realistically, the biggest hurdle for me is getting past the age factor and getting people who are front-office people to not look at age and say, 'Well, forget him.'"
