4 Ravens That Restructured To Help The Cap
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Ravens have been hard at work clearing even more salary-cap space.
Here are four Ravens that have made that process a bit easier by restructuring their contracts:
Jimmy Smith: According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Ravens recently turned $6 million of cornerback Jimmy Smith's $7 million 2016 base salary into a signing bonus.
Marshal Yanda: Yanda signed a four-year, $32 million extension in October. This isn't the first time he has agreed to restructure his contract when the Ravens have come asking for salary-cap flexibility. He also did it in May of 2012.
Joe Flacco: Flacco's contract reportedly saved $6 million of cap space, but being in Baltimore for the next six years is really what had Newsome, Flacco and Head Coach John Harbaugh excited.
Kyle Arrington: The exact terms of the pay cut and amount of cap room it created were not announced. Arrington was reportedly due a $2.1 million base salary this year, with a $2.77 million cap hit.
So, when the $6 million from Smith gets added to the nearly $4 million in cap savings from guard Marshal Yanda's restructure earlier this week, the $6 million savings from quarterback Joe Flacco's new extension, and cornerback Kyle Arrington agreed to take a pay cut to stay with the Ravens this season, the team has found almost $14 million to use in free agency.
