32-acre Addition Coming To Cunningham Falls State Park

THURMONT, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Board of Public Works has approved the purchase of 32 acres of forest land adjacent to Cunningham Falls State Park.

The Frederick News-Post reports the property, purchased Wednesday, will be managed by the Maryland Park Service. The land will be used to protect the headwaters of Sandy Run and provide more road access for firefighting, law enforcement and trail maintenance in a remote portion of the park.

The board, composed of Gov. Larry Hogan, Comptroller Peter Franchot and Treasurer Nancy K. Kopp, approved $223,000 for the purchase.

The park, near Thurmont, includes a lake, waterfall area, campground and hiking trails.
