30 Md. Kids Taken To Hospitals After Pepper Spray Exposure

MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, Md. (AP) — Fire and rescue officials say 30 elementary school students were taken to hospitals as a precaution after they were exposed to pepper spray on a school bus in Montgomery Village.

Montgomery County fire department spokesman Pete Piringer tweeted that 56 kids were on the bus when they inhaled the substance on Wednesday afternoon. The bus was outside Watkins Mill Elementary School. Piringer says no one was seriously injured but 30 children were taken to hospitals to be checked out.

There was no immediate word on how or why the pepper spray was used on the bus. A police spokesman says officers were not called to the school.
