3-Year-Old In Queen Anne's County Has Foot Amputated By Lawn Mower

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A tourniquet applied by first responders may have saved a 3-year-old's life in Queen Anne's County Friday morning, after the child's foot was amputated by a lawn mower.

Emergency crews responded to the 200 block of Fairview Farm Lane in Centreville shortly before noon, according to a news release from the Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office.

They say the child had sustained life threatening injuries and had lost a lot of blood after being accidentally run over with the lawn mower by his father.

The child was flown to Johns Hopkins by Maryland State Police helicopter.

Later, Johns Hopkins told the Queen Anne's County Department of Emergency Services that the quick response by Centreville Police, Major Dwayne Boardman of the Sheriff's Office, the Goodwill Fire Company and paramedics, and especially the application of a tourniquet, likely saved the child's life.

Investigation of the incident is being handled by the Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Unit.
