1 Woman Dead, 3 Firefighters Injured In Lansdowne House Fire

Lansdowne, Baltimore Co. (WJZ) -- An elderly woman was killed in an overnight fire that also injured three Baltimore County firefighters.

The victim has been identified as 69-year old Eleanor Jean Daniels.

Fire officials said she was found dead on the first floor of the home.

Fire officials were called to the 3100 block of Aspen Court in Lansdowne around 10:45p.m. last night. As fire crews arrived on scene they found heavy fire showing from an end-of-group townhouse.

"Then we heard a big boom, so it sounded like an explosion, so they told us all to get back," A neighbor said.

When at least 40 firefighters made entry into the home they heard an explosion they believe may have been an oxygen tank.  An elderly woman was rescued from the home but died on scene a short time later.

Three firefighters suffered minor injuries but were not transported from the scene.

The fire was put out in about a half-an-hour, fire officials said.

They said it was likely caused by an exploding oxygen tank inside.

"We don't believe anything to be immediately suspicious or anything of that nature," said Tim Rostkowski, fire director for Baltimore County Fire Department.
