Workers Remain In Critical Condition After Collapse At Old Bethlehem Steel Plant
SPARROWS POINT, Md. (WJZ)-- Police say workers were 40 feet in the air in lift trucks removing asbestos from the old Bethlehem Steel building when it collapsed.
Workers say half of the building had already been torn down, and they were working on the other section.
The workers were able to get some of the injured out of the building. Those who were trapped were rescued by first responders.
In total, nine people were injured, some of them critical. Others were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries. Three people remain hospitalized, with two in critical condition.
The old Bethlehem Steel plant was closed in 2012, but at one point employed more than 30,000 people in Baltimore County.
