2 Street Collapses Above Sewer Line to Cost About $10M

BALTIMORE (AP) — Officials say two street collapses above a century-old Baltimore sewer line near downtown earlier this year are expected to cost the city at least a combined $10 million in repairs.

The Department of Public Works said Tuesday that a portion of West Centre Street will be resurfaced, stripped and opened back up to the public by Oct. 1 after $4 million to $4.5 million in repairs. Part of the street fell into the 6-foot sewer line on April 23.

Officials expect repairs being done on part of West Mulberry Street to cost between $6 million and $7 million. The street collapsed on July 4 due to the same sewer line that caused the West Centre Street sinkhole. The city expects the road to be reopened by mid-December.
