2 Overnight Fires In Md. Leave 2 In Critical Condition
JOPPA, Md. (AP) -- Two overnight fires in Maryland have left an 11-year-old girl and a 73-year-old man fighting for their lives Friday.
The Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company says they pulled the girl from a burning camper home around 1 a.m. in Joppa, 20 miles northeast of Baltimore.
She was taken to the hospital in critical condition with smoke inhalation injuries. The Maryland State Fire Marshal says the girl's parents were at work at the time of the fire.
The second fire happened at 1:30 a.m. in Montgomery County. County fire officials say a 73-year-old man suffered life-threatening burns while trying to put out a fire at his Bethesda home. He's in critical condition at a hospital.
The first fire is under investigation. The second is believed to be caused by an electrical problem.
