2 Maryland Deputies Won't Be Charged In Fatal Shooting

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Two Maryland sheriff's deputies won't be charged in the shooting of a man who rammed two police cars.

The Prince George's County sheriff's office announced Friday that county prosecutors won't be charging Cpl. Jamal Dadier and Deputy First Class Anthony Bynum after a lengthy investigation.

The shooting occurred last May. According to the sheriff's office, 34-year-old Lionel Young was suspected of threatening a woman with a knife in a domestic dispute. The deputies pursued Young, and the sheriff's office says Young rammed two of their cars. The deputies opened fire and Young was killed. Investigators recovered two knives from the scene.

The state's attorney's office and county police had been investigating the shooting. Sheriff Melvin High said in a statement that the deputies "acted appropriately in a dangerous situation."
